10 Biggest Stereotypes About Russia and Russian Women – Part 1
People love to stereotype. I guess it is just a part of human nature and we can’t help it. There are many stereotypes about Russian women and Russians in general. Here are the most common ones:
Stereotype 1. Russian women will marry anyone, because they desperately want to get out of Russia. (Ahem)…We wrote a blog post about this HERE.
Stereotype 2. Russian men are all alcoholics and like to abuse women. This is very far from the truth. There are plenty of decent men in Russia. However there are more women in Russia than men, which is one of the reasons why Russian women are looking for husbands abroad.
Stereotype 3. All Russian women are beautiful. This is also just a stereotype. However, Russian women take very good care of themselves; they don’t get fat, they are very feminine and they like to emphasize their femininity with attractive and fashionable clothing. Many men find femininity attractive. We actually just wrote a post about this.
Stereotype 4. All Russians drink vodka. This is just a myth (Read our post about 3 main myths about Russia). Many women and some men can’t stand vodka. I lived in a few different countries and honestly I don’t think that Russians drink any less than the rest of the world.
Many Americans don’t know that 99% of Russians love tea.
Stereotype 5. Russia is very cold. First of all, Russia is huge. It has 12 time zones and is the biggest country of the world. It is not all cold. Much of European Russia has cold winters and warm summers and climate is very similar to Canadian or Northern U.S.
To be continued…

Thank you for this post. We, Americans, tend to stereotype a lot.
Yes, we do.
Yeah, but I am sure Russians stereotype just as much.
Probably, Single.;-)
Yeah I hate these stereotypes. As a Russian woman, I’ve been stereotyped much. No, I don’t wish to marry just anyone. I’m am curvy (not fat) and don’t have blonde hair and blue eyes. I’m a feminist. I don’t drink vodka. I don’t like sala (I’m a vegetarian). Stereotypes get you no where
Sorry, been to Ukraine plenty of times. There are lots of fatties there.
I am a American women, but I can tell you that my blood is Russian. It runs in my veins. Everywhere, I go I carry my heritage with me and yes I am proud. Just as every Russian woman and man are. Russians can seem cold, but in truth are a passionate people with so many layers. We may not trust easily but when we do we give our whole heart and souls. I hate this stereo type of Russian women and Russian men. The men respect their wives, mothers, daughters they are considered the flower of Russia. Not every RUSSIAN WOMAN IS TALL or Blond. You know what makes a Russian woman beautiful is her COURAGE
erm, flowers? Lynn, you forgot how many thousands of teenage and adult university educated women have married sponsors, pop out babies in “civil marriage” then cry because the guy moved on to yet another younger chick? How but cyber stalking the current wife? Russian women are ready willing and able to kill each other fora guy with a wallet!
Yes I’m from Moscow and not allwomen are there are beautiful though I do see it a lot more often then in the states. And (for an example) Moscow is not this cold bitter place. The weather/climate there is very similar to what you would find in NYC or Boston
