Stereotype 6. Russian wives are submissive and they would love to be your slave. As far as you get them out of the country that is. I am not going to repeat myself, because I just answered this question in this post.
Stereotype 7. Russians don’t have a sense of humor and are very sad people. This one is actually funny. Russians have a good sense of humor; it is just different from American. And they are not sad, they just don’t smile much. Russians don’t like “fake” and insincere smiles (the ones cashier gives you at the store because it is a part of her job). If a Russian woman smiles at you, you can be sure it is sincere and special.
Stereotype 8. Russians are poor. Some people still think Russians live in caves with bears. If you believe this, just go to Russia (preferably to a big city) and look around. See how people are dressed, which cars they drive and don’t forget to look at price tags at the stores. You may be very surprised. Did you know that Moscow is the most expensive city in the world?
Stereotype 9. Russian women are materialistic. Russian women are not any more materialistic than any other women. However, gift giving is a huge part of Russian culture, so this may be the reason for this stereotype. Russian women like to give and get gifts, but in Russia they say that it is not the gift that counts, but the attention.
Stereotype 10. Russians wear big furry hats and fur coats. Many Russian women still wear fur coats, because they are considered to be stylish, but big furry hats are in the past.
The best way to see what Russia and Russian women are really like is to visit them.

I went to Russia (Moscow) last year and I can confirm that Russians, at least the ones I met, are not poor.
There are some poor Russians,of course. Just like there are poor people in every country, including the US, but many Western people think that most Russians are poor.
