If you have been in Russia or other Former Soviet Union countries, especially in larger cities, you were probably already amazed on how well people dress. Walking the streets of Moscow is almost like being a part of a huge fashion show. If you are not sure what is in style this season, go to Moscow and see what Russian women (and men) wear. They will know before the rest of the world does.

Expect your Russian wife to be dressed the Russian way for awhile. She will wear make-up along with heels, skirt and a silk blouse just to go to the grocery store. Don’t think she is hitting on a cashier. Russian women want to look pretty always – at a party, at the store, at the gym, or when they take their garbage out.

Keep in mind that if you want to make a good impression on her, pay attention to what you wear. No sneakers and dirty jeans on a date.

It is possible that she will get Westernized in time and switch to more comfortable shoes and possible even athletic style of clothing. However, don’t expect her to wear oversized T-shirts and baggy jeans (unless for some mysterious reason they are in style). If she does, maybe she is not Russian after all.

I (N.) was wearing my mini-skirts, dresses and high heels for about a year. I got tired of people asking me if I was going out on a day every time I put on a skirt and had my hair done. I have to admit, I wear yoga and loungewear quite frequently now (I found out it was not easy to chase our small kids in high heels, even though many Russia women do it), but my yoga pants always have to match my tee and they can’t be baggy. Nice clothes make me feel good about myself and make me feel pretty.
