Russian Women and Career
Some think that Russian women are so dedicated to their families and children, that they have no interest in a career and working outside of the home whatsoever. This is not true at all. Yes, Russian women have traditional family values; and yes their marriage and family would usually be their priority, but it doesn’t mean that they don’t want to be useful to the society or have a good job.
Most Russian women who come to the United States are well-educated and have at least one college degree. It is not easy to find a job without a degree in Russia and it is generally harder for women to find a good job.
Family brings much more satisfaction to Russian women and for the longest time Russian, Belarussian and Ukrainian mothers could stay home on maternity leave for 3 years (I believe this still applies). Russian women often don’t understand how Western moms can give birth to a baby and go back to work in 6 weeks. And they don’t buy the “I can’t afford to stay home” line, because many Americans live their above their means and instead of cutting costs and limiting themselves in something, they choose to go to work.
This is probably a mentality difference, because a Russian woman (again, the majority) would much rather drive an ugly old car and will not go out to eat for 5 years, but stay at home with her baby. So if you don’t like this mindset, maybe a Russian wife isn’t for you. If this concerns you, you should always discuss these things while developing a relationship. Better to do it before you get married.
Don’t worry; you will not have to feed a Russian wife for the rest of your life. She will most likely want to work after the children are a little older and there is a good chance that she will succeed. Russian women are used to working hard and they are able to handle a job, a family and a house at the same time.
