Originally mail-order brides were women who listed themselves in catalogs in hopes to be picked by men to marry them. This is one of the reasons why this term has a negative connotation. Russian women who post their pictures and profiles online find the term mail order brides offensive.
Russian women are not merchandise which is waiting to be ordered by foreign men. All of them are individuals with their likes and dislikes, feelings and emotions, standards and dreams, who are searching for love and hoping to meet their significant other. They wouldn’t marry anyone just to get out of the country. I already wrote about the reasons why Russian women are looking to get married to Western men.
Russian dating websites work the same way as eHarmony or Match.com, only on international scale.
The term “mail order brides” is very misleading. Western men who already experienced meeting and dating Russian women through Russian dating websites will tell you that their experience had nothing to do with picking and “ordering” a woman to bring to the country. If you don’t believe me, read forums where Western men share their stories, or ask Russian-American couples you know who met online.
Don’t believe that Russian women will be happy with anyone as far as he has an American passport. This is not true. Actually, Russians are very attached to their families and have strong family ties, so if is not easy for them to leave their country. Also, most of the ladies online have university degrees and decent jobs. Believe me, they don’t want to get out. They just want to have a family. There are fewer men than women in Russia, so Russian women just want to get married to a decent man, who will value their family values, femininity and create a nice family with them.
Russian mail order brides don’t exist. This is an insulting term, so please try not to use it, especially in front of your Russian lady.
