Do I Need an Immigration Lawyer to Apply for Green Card for My Russian Bride?

FAQ: I just got married to a Russian girl, who came here on a K1 (fiancé) visa. We want to apply for a work permit and green card for her. Do I need an immigration lawyer?

If you and your Russian bride follow all the rules from the very beginning, don’t lie to the government officials and don’t break any laws or any rules, you don’t need a lawyer. Many lawyers will make you believe that the application processes (for a green card, SSN or work permit) is so difficult that there is absolutely no way to complete it without screwing up (and then they would usually tell you all the horrifying consequences if you do screw up). Don’t believe them.

Green card application process can be time-consuming and may seem overwhelming at times, but unless you are a millionaire, you don’t need to waste money on lawyers.

We did everything by ourselves (even though one lawyer was trying really hard to scare us and make us believe that without him we would be in trouble) and it did take us a lot of time, but I still wouldn’t recommend hiring a lawyer to do that. Instead, I now recommend K1Visa Experts to all my friends. The site is going to save you thousands of dollars as well as headache and hassle. Check it out.

If you want to know what the current green card fees are, here is the link from www.USCIS.gov which you may find useful.
